Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has announced that it will be conducting the semester-end exams in both online and offline mode. As per the notification, faculties will be given the option to choose from either an online or offline mode of exams. The semester exams will be conducted in Open Book Exam (OBE) format for all those who are appearing for the online mode.

In the interest of students & in view of the challenges faced by them in learning during the pandemic, the Banaras Hindu University has decided that Faculties may pick any one of the following three options for the ensuing Semester End Examinations:

  1. Online Mode (Open Book Examination)
  2. Conventional Offline Mode
  3. Option to students to pick any one of the above two options

The decision was taken at a high level meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudhir K. Jain. The meeting was attended by Directors of Institutes, Deans of Faculties and senior officers of the university. As the situation varies from faculty to faculty, applying a uniform solution across faculties won’t be right. The meeting also took note of the requirement of regulatory bodies to conduct classes & hold examinations in offline mode in some of the courses/programmes. It has been decided that Faculties may quickly select one of the three models of evaluation after consultation with their Heads of Departments, teachers and students.

On February 21, after a gap of almost two years, the BHU reopened its campus for students. The students of the second year of all the courses and first year of many courses returned to attend offline classes. The process of hostel allotment is underway which is being done on double occupancy basis now. It is to be noted that classes for the final year and the PhD had already been started. On February 9, BHU had reopened various institutes/faculties/departments/offices/units to work with full capacity. All teachers, officers and employees were asked to be 100 per cent present at their workplace on regular basis. Everyone was asked to follow strict COVID-friendly behavior.
