Like last year, AHSEC will not conduct the final exams for Class 11 students this year too. It is decided to promote them to Class 12 without holding exams.

The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) announced that it will promote all Class 11 students without holding examinations. This decision was taken after witnessing a surge in COVID19 cases across the state. Last year too, the Class 11 exams were not conducted due to coronavirus outbreak.

Pankaj Borthakur, AHSEC controller of examinations stated that the higher secondary first-year examination has been cancelled. Earlier, the exam was scheduled to start from May 4 but was postponed by the board fearing virus infection.

The official notification reads, “All the students who had filled up online applications for the same are hereby declared to have been promoted to HS 2nd year for the academic year 2020-21.” Around 2.4 lakh students had registered themselves for the Class 11 exams from the state.

The Board had already postponed the AHSEC 2nd year exams 2021 due to the pandemic situation but decided not to promote students without exams. The new time table for HS 2nd year 2021 will be announced in June after reviewing the situation.

AHSEC Secretary Ramesh Chandra Chutia told media that the board will soon streamline the process of online classes for students who have been promoted. "We are planning to start the online class for class 12 from around May 15. Due to the pandemic situation, their studies should not face a roadblock. No one knows when the Covid situation will improve," he added.

However, he informed that the board is ready to conduct the offline board exams 2021 for Classes 10th, 12th anytime. He told that 49 more exam centres have been added to maintain social distancing, and for students who need to travel long distances, the board will conduct exams in recognized centre near their home. However, the board is not ready to forgo the sanctity of exam in the name of COVID.
