Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) has announced that Higher Secondary (HS) Final Examination 2026 will be held in February and March 2026.Board has also initiated online form fill-up process for students, which will run from October 22 to November 25, 2025.
ASSEB in its official notice has directed all junior colleges and higher secondary schools to ensure no eligible student is excluded from registration, emphasizing that applications will only be accepted through the online portal, with no offline submissions permitted under any circumstance.
Assam board has clarified that a student’s registration number remains valid for five years from the year of registration, though failure to meet deadline will bar candidates from appearing in 2026 exams. Only students enrolled in recognized and approved institutions will be considered regular candidates, while those from non-recognized institutions during the 2024–25 session will be classified as ‘Institutional Private (IP)’ candidates, subject to additional fees.
As per ASSEB notice, students from government, provincialised, and recognized venture institutions, whose parents’ annual income does not exceed Rs 2 lakh, are exempted from examination fees. ASSEB has also shared eligibility details for special categories, including ‘Betterment’, ‘Re-appearance’, ‘Subject Repeat’, ‘Compartmental’, and ‘Certain Subject’ candidates.
Students who have passed HS Final Examination 2025 can apply under Betterment or Re-appearance schemes without prior permission. Betterment scheme allows re-examination in up to four subjects, including practical papers if applicable, replacing previous scores with new results upon surrender of old marksheet.
The re-appearance scheme allows students to retake all subjects to improve overall performance for competitive exams like engineering or medicine, with better result retained, though no combination of old and new subject marks will be accepted.
Under the Certain Subject scheme, candidates who passed the HS First Year Exam 2025 in specific subjects with board approval must seek fresh permission to reappear in 2026, while those unable to pass or appear in one elective subject from earlier years may apply online for that subject.
Candidates failing one or more subjects in 2025 HS Final Exam can opt for Compartmental category for specific subjects or Repeat category for all subjects.
Students with repeat results from previous exams within the valid registration period can reappear in 2026 as Non-Institutional Private (NP) candidates, exclusively through the online portal.
