Assam board students started a campaign on Twitter, demanding cancellation of HSLC and HS board exams. The board earlier decided to conduct the exams for three subjects only.

Thousands of Assam board students started a campaign on Twitter, demanding cancellation of Assam HSLC exam conducted by the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) and HS exam under the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC). Stating that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and many state boards have cancelled this year’s exams amid the prevailing Covid-19 crisis, student bodies of Assam asked the state government to take similar decisions.

Latest Update: Assam government decides to ahead and conduct Class 10, 12 board exams. Students will not appear for all the papers. All staff will be vaccinated for COVID-19.

Here’s the screenshot demanding cancellation of exams:

“Students are the future of our state, our country. If they fall prey to COVID19, and lose their lives, how can we develop our state? Our state has no future without the students. Cancel SEBA/AHSEC exams immediately!” NSUI Assam tweeted with #CancelAssamBoardExams.

The students mentioned that the delay in the decision-making process is causing mental stress to students who are facing health issues alongwith their parents due to COVID-19. They demand cancellation and warn the state government about them protesting on streets otherwise.

Speaking on the matter, students said that appearing for the exams in physical mode is extremely unsafe for them. They suggest government to go for online exams or calculate marks on the basis of alternative assessment criteria. They also said that the students who are unhappy with the marks awarded to them can appear for the board exams at a later stage when the situation is conducive to hold exam offline.

“The students of other boards have already started preparing for entrance examinations but we AHSEC and SEBA students are still stuck in boards exam phase,” said a student.

The Assam government is yet to make announcements for HSLC and HS final exams. Earlier, Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu had said that the government will take decisions regarding HSLC and HS exams very soon.

According to PTI, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said a decision on holding the Class 12 exams will be taken after the CBSE announces modalities for marking the student.
