Students who have scored well in the Assam HSLC Results 2020 will be awarded cash prize instead of a laptop, the state education minister announced.

Assam HSLC Results 2020: State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the government will award cash prizes instead of a laptop to students who have performed well in Assam HSLC 2020 Results. The government will give Rs 20,000 each to students who have scored star marks or 75 per cent and above in Assam Class 10 Results 2020. Earlier, the government uses to give laptops. The Education Minister said that instead of providing computers as many parts of which come from China and other countries and are also difficult to source during the pandemic, the Government will be depositing Rs 20,000 in the bank account of each student.

As per the data shared by the Education Minister, a total of 16,944 students have scored star marks and above in HSLC results 2020, of which the bank details of 16,648 students have already been gathered. He also added that the state government does not install the latest software such as Microsoft Windows in the computers, and as such most of the students end up changing their laptops. The minister said that Government is planning to roll out the money for the scheme on September 12 as a total of 33-34 crores will be required for the same.

The Education Minister tweeted that, "as initiated by the MoS, P&D and himself in 2005, the Anandaram Barooah Award provided a laptop each to students who secured 1st division in HSLC Exam. This year, however, due to COVID-19 an amount of Rs 20,000 will be given to students by DBT to each of the 16944 students by September 15, 2020 instead of procuring laptops."
