Many parents and students have approached CBSE with grievances that Class 12 students appearing for the JEE Main 2026 exam are not getting their Class 11 registration numbers from  schools

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked all its affiliated schools to give Class 11 registration numbers to students applying for the JEE (Main) 2026 exam.

As per CBSE notice, many parents and students have complained that schools are not sharing these important details (registration numbers). The CBSE wants to make sure students can apply for the JEE exam without trouble.

CBSE notice states that the National Testing Agency (NTA) needs the Class 11 registration number for JEE (Main) applications. The NTA opened the JEE registration on November 6, and the last date to apply is November 19, 2025. Without the CBSE registration number, students will not be able to submit their forms.

CBSE circular reads: “In the Class X/XII Board Examinations Date Sheet issued by the Board vide circular dated 30.10.2025, it was mentioned that NTA will require the registration number of Class XI students to be filled in the JEE (Main) application. Accordingly, all the schools are requested to provide the registration number of Class XI to their students applying for JEE (Main).”

The national board has also highlighted that despite above instructions, many parents and students have approached the Board with grievances that Class 12 students appearing for the JEE Main 2026 exam are not getting their Class 11 registration numbers from the respective schools.

“This matter has been seriously viewed by the Board. It is once again reiterated that schools must invariably provide the Class XI registration number to students appearing for the JEE Exam 2026,” notice reads.

The registration number is needed to link a student’s school record with their JEE application. It also helps avoid clashes between JEE exams and board exams.
