Earlier also, the government wrote a letter to the CBSE asking for a fee waiver for the exam fee for the CBSE 10th and CBSE 12th students stating the financial difficulties faced due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation.

The Delhi state government asked the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to extend the deadline for submitting the examination fee for the CBSE 10th Board Exams 2021 and CBSE 12th Board Exams 2021 from October 15 to November 14, 2020. Earlier also, the government wrote a letter to the CBSE asking for a fee waiver for the exam fee for the CBSE 10th and CBSE 12th students stating the financial difficulties faced due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation.

The Director of Education in a letter to the CBSE stated that the board was requested to waive off the entire exam fee and a one time measure for the students from class 10 and 12 and in reply to the request, the board showed its inability to waive off the fee for the students. The letter also stated that due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation there is financial difficulty and considering the revenue position the government is not in a state to pay the exam fee for the 2020-21 academic session as in 2019-20. It also added that every day several requests have been put by the parents mentioning the hardships faced by them during the lockdown period.

Media reports suggest that It also added that the novel coronavirus pandemic resulted in loss of job and employment for a huge number of parents. In order to continue the education of their children and pay the exam fees, many parents have now resorted to loans.

The DoE further stated that organizations have expressed their desire to offer financial support as a welfare measure and wish to pay the exam fee for the students in some of the schools. Last year the government announced that it will cover the complete exam fee for all the students appearing for the board exams and paid the fee for close to 3.14 lakh students after a decision taken in the cabinet meeting.
