CISCE introduced Health and Physical Education as a compulsory independent internal assessment component at both the ICSE and ISC levels. This is effective from the Examination Year 2028.
The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) introduced Health and Physical Education as a compulsory independent internal assessment component at both the ICSE and ISC levels. This is effective from the Examination Year 2028. This means the implementation will commence from academic Year 2026-27 for students enrolling in Classes 9 and 11, who will appear for the Board Examinations in 2028.
This initiative has been taken as per the recommendations of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE 2023). There is no change in the scheme of studies for candidates appearing for the ICSE and ISC Board Examinations in 2027. On the other hand, the board released ICSE specimen question paper. These papers help in understanding the pattern.

How will the process work?
Health and Physical Education will be assessed internally throughout the academic year through:
- Physical Health and Fitness Assessment
- Participation in Games and Sports
- Health, Safety and Well-being
Students may continue to opt for Physical Education as an elective subject at the ICSE and ISC levels. This remains independent of the compulsory Health and Physical Education internal assessment
