Subhas Sarkar informed the Rajya Sabha that 327 teaching and non-teaching staff KV, JNV and CBSE expired due to COVID-19.
The Government of India has said that no teacher died during COVID duty. In a written reply in Rajya Sabha Minister of State for Education, Dr Subhas Sarkar has informed that none of the teachers
died during COVID duty.
Prof. Manoj Kumar Jha, Member of Parliament requested the government to share details of number of death of Government and Non-Government school teachers during COVID and while on COVID duty.
Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Dr Subhas Sarkar informed the Rajya Sabha that 327 teaching and non-teaching staff of Kendriya Vidhyalaya (KV), Jawahar Navodaya Vidhyalaya (JNV) and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) expired due to COVID-19.
Sarkar also informed that none of these teachers died during COVID duty.
While replying to the question of Central Government’s contribution as compensation to these teachers' families, minister informed that education is a subject in the Concurrent List of the Constitution and schools, other than those owned / funded by Central Government, are under the jurisdiction of the State Governments.
