Ministry of Tribal Affairs offers Pre-Matric, Post Matric, National Fellowship for Higher Education, National Scholarship for Higher Education and National Overseas Scholarship for ST students.
Ministry of Tribal Affairs has said that Scheduled Tribe students from Class 9 to postgraduate programmes will continue to receive financial support under its two central scholarship schemes. The clarification reiterates that both the Pre-Matric and Post-Matric schemes are open-ended, allowing every eligible student from families earning up to βΉ2.5 lakh a year to apply.
These schemes cover a wide range of courses and remain a key source of assistance for tribal households where schooling and college education often get disrupted due to cost. Since there is no cap on beneficiary numbers, the support extends to all qualifying students across States and Union Territories.
State and UT administrations handle the primary workflow: calling for applications, checking documents, confirming eligibility and releasing the scholarship amount. The procedure differs from state to state, but the responsibility for identifying students and clearing payments lies entirely with the respective governments.
Tribal Affairs Ministry is implementing below mentioned Scholarship Schemes for ST students
i) Pre-Matric Scholarship for ST students (Class IX and X)
ii) Post Matric Scholarship for ST students (Class XI and above)
iii) National Fellowship for Higher Education for ST students.
iv) National Scholarship for Higher Education for ST students(Top Class)
v) National Overseas Scholarship for ST students.
The Centre releases its share of funds after reviewing annual proposals submitted by States/UTs. These contain details of the number of students supported, money spent and utilisation certificates. Officials examine both financial progress and on-ground coverage before approving the next instalment. The Ministry noted that this ensures funds are tied to actual implementation and avoid delays.
