Provide digital devices to secondary school students, says Education Minister

The Education Minister, in the virtual meet, reviewed the COVID19 situation in states, status of online education and students continuing classes despite the challenges during the pandemic, and work around National Education Policy (NEP).

The Union Minister of Education Ramesh Pokhriyal in a virtual interaction with the state education secretaries on May 17 suggested that students studying in Class 10 be provided with digital devices.

In the meet, the Education Minister reviewed the COVID19 situation in the states, status of online education and how the students are continuing their classes despite the challenges during the pandemic, and work around National Education Policy (NEP). This was the first virtual meeting of the minister with the state education secretaries during the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

During the meet, Pokhriyal also suggested that Bharat Net should be used to connect all the schools. To ensure mental wellness of students and teachers, 'Manodarpan' portal be used effectively and "Grief Session" is to be arranged at required places.

The Ministry of Education (MoE) tweeted, "The State education secretaries meeting was held to review the COVID situation, online education, and work around NEP."

"Education is the top priority and as instructed by the Government of India, a COVID action plan to ensure uninterrupted education is required," it added.

The meeting also sought reviews on Class 12 exams from states in this regard. The CBSE has already announced that a review will be done on or after June 1 and a decision will be taken on the pending board exams. Class 10 exams have already been cancelled and a marking policy has been announced.
