Students and parents are advised to check updates from their schools and colleges, as private institutions may follow their own schedules.

Schools and colleges in several states like Delhi, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand will remain closed today, October 27, for Chhath Puja. State governments have issued separate orders declaring a public holiday.

In Delhi, all schools (government and private), colleges will remain closed on Monday. The order was approved by Lieutenant Governor after Delhi Chief Minister’s proposal to mark Chhath Puja. In Delhi around 1,300 Chhath ghats have been prepared across city for devotees offering evening prayers to the setting Sun.

In Bihar, state education department has announced holiday for both schools and higher education institutes till October 29. The extended vacation covers Diwali and Chhath Puja, classes will resume from Oct 30.

Similarly, district officials in Uttar Pradesh have also declared a one day holiday on October 27 in cities such as Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Lucknow. A few areas may continue the break on October 28 as well depending on local rituals.

Local administration in Jharkhand and parts of West Bengal have taken a similar decision. Schools and colleges in Ranchi, Dhanbad and Asansol will stay closed on Monday and reopen from Tuesday.

Chhath Puja, dedicated to Sun God, is one of the most important festivals in eastern India. The main rituals, known as Sandhya Arghya, fall on October 27 this year, devotees across region will gather near rivers and ghats to offer prayers.
