The decision comes after the state government ordered the closure of schools due to a surge in covid cases in the state.
The Telangana government along with the TS board has decided to promote all students of Class 1 to 9 in the state without holding exams.
The decision comes days after the government decided to shut schools for summer vacations from April 27 till May 31, 2021, due to rising coronavirus cases. Early closure of schools left management in a dilemma over exams of students of Classes 1 to 9 and their promotion.
The order issued by School Education Department reads, “Government after careful examination of the matter and keeping in view of hardships caused due to COVID19 pandemic, hereby accord permission to director of school education, Telangana to promote all the students of classes 1 to 9 studying in government schools, aided and private unaided schools during the academic year 2020-21 to the next higher class.”
As a rigorous assessment is not possible due to the pandemic, schools are looking at other ways to help those who need to catch up. Schools feel an urgent need to bridge the learning gaps in Class 9 students by holding home-based assessments during the summer break.
According to media reports, the Principal of Cardinal Gracious High School said, “We have prepared worksheets, projects of 45 days on key concepts, and revisit fundamental topics in an engaging and fun-filled manner. We will assess the learning gaps of all the students, especially those in Class 9.”
Meanwhile, the boards had also decided on cancellation of the TS SSC exams 2021 while TS Inter exams 2021 have been postponed. The new exam schedule for Class 12 examinations will be released later after assessing the situation.
