Earlier, the board had announced that it will conduct WB Madhyamik exams in second week of August and WB HS exams from the last week of July. The final decision on exams is yet to be taken.

West Bengal government has decided to cancel WB HS, Madhyamik exams this year amid prevailing COVID-19 crisis. Following the centre’s decision to cancel the 12th board examinations, West Bengal, along with many other state boards has decided to cancel the Class 12 exams. The board will soon release the evaluation criteria to assess students and declare results.

WB HS Exams 2021 cancelled

For West Bengal 12th exams, the six-member expert committee formed by the government had recommended in its report that nearly 7.5 lakh higher secondary students could be evaluated through assessment, assignments and examinations from home. “The expert committee suggested examinations from home for the Higher Secondary students. The board could send assignments to the students asking them to submit them within a scheduled time,” read the official statement.

The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) is in favour of conducting examinations for HS students. Reports indicate that the proposal of conducting HS board Exams 2021 at home instead of exam centres had come up in the meetings of the expert committee. However, the board decided to cancel the exams due to surge in COVID-19 cases.

No WB Madhyamik Exams 2021 for students

The committee however, opined strongly against taking the examination of approximately 12 lakh WB Madhyamik students. The members suggested evaluating the students on the basis of their exam in Class 11 and internal assessment. “This assessment should be based on the students’ overall performance all through the year,” the committee had suggested.

The final evaluation criteria for both -WB HS and WB Madhyamik will be out soon. Students must watch this space to stay updated.
