BITSoM launches BITSoM Business Valley competition for students with start-up ideas

Candidates interested in BITSoM Business Valley must note that the last date to register for the competition is March 17, 2022.

BITS School of Management, (BITSoM), from BITS Pilani has launched a national-level inter-college business plan competition, ‘BITSoM Business Valley’. The competition has been launched for undergraduate and postgraduate students in India.

According to the official press note, under BITSoM Business Valley students will get the opportunity to pitch their start-up ideas to some of the best entrepreneurial minds in the country. The winning team will receive a cash prize of INR 100,000, the first runner-up team would receive a cash prize of INR 50,000 and the second runner-up team will receive a cash prize of INR 25,000.

Divided into two rounds, BITSoM Business Valley will be judged by a panel of leaders from the start-up and innovation space. The first round of the competition is Capitalise where the teams will have to make an elevator pitch in 100 words and showcase a business plan that must include a clear problem statement, the target audience, overview of the idea, perceived challenges, investment ask and project timeframe.

The second round is called Refine where ten shortlisted teams will have the opportunity to attend masterclasses on innovation and entrepreneurship by the BITSoM faculty and refine their proposals, the press released said.

Participants will then have to make a 10-minute presentation followed by a Q&A with the panel of judges. The teams will be evaluated based on the problem they are trying to solve, the value proposition, the market opportunity, operational feasibility, revenue model and viability, and the social and environmental impact.

Teams wishing to participate must be of between two and four members and may include a faculty member from their respective institution.

The competition will be judged by a panel of leaders from the start-up and innovation space. The five-member panel comprises of Hari Menon, Co-founder and CEO of BigBasket; Alka Goel, Founding Partner, Alkemi Growth Capital; Shrijeet Mishra, Chief Innovation Officer and Head Group Services at Aditya Birla Group; Rohit Chanana, leading angel investor, and Founder & Managing Partner at Sarcha Advisors; and Suhas Misra, Chief Executive Officer at Misters and former COO at Paperboat India.
