XLRI hosts 3rd edition of Fr McGrath Memorial Programme
Fr McGrath Memorial Programme is organised annually in collaboration with the Fr Arrupe Centre for Ecological Sustainability (FACES) and PEACE, a student group responsible for promoting sustainable and environmental conservation practices at XLRI.
XLRI hosted an impactful, 3rd edition of the Fr McGrath Memorial Programme at the Stein Auditorium, Indian Habitat Centre, New Delhi. According to the official statement, the Programme, an initiative of the 1987 batch of XLRI Jamshedpur, pays homage to Father E McGrath by bringing forth his invaluable teachings and values he lived by, to a broader audience and new generations of Managers graduating from Business schools.
It is organised annually in collaboration with the Fr Arrupe Centre for Ecological Sustainability (FACES) and PEACE, a student group responsible for promoting sustainable and environmental conservation practices at XLRI. The event is a platform for budding business leaders of our nation to come together and discuss the relevant concerns of today’s corporate world and, through this, help them imbibe the values of ethical and sustainable business practices.
Started in the pandemic year (2021), it was an online event. The 2nd year, it moved to a hybrid version (2022), with the finals being an in perosn event at The Stein auditorium – India Habitat Centre, Delhi . The first two editions were a huge success, with teams from the top-most business schools of the nation coming together to compete against each other. The 1st edition had “Responsible Leadership For Greater Good” as the central theme. The event witnessed registration from 91 teams, and after three rigorous rounds, the team from the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode emerged as the winner, with the team from Management Development Institute Gurgaon as runner-up.
In the 2nd edition, the central theme was “An opportunity lost: Linking SDG and ESG”, in which 183 teams registered and Management Development Institute Gurgaon team won the finals, andthe Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode team were the runners-up. In the 2nd edition, apart from the debate, a panel discussion was also conducted on “Are Stakeholders Really Seizing The ESG Moment”. The panel comprised Aditya Ghosh (Co-founder, Akasa airlines), Rahul Bhasin (Managing Partner, Baring Private Equity India), Neelima Khetan (Visiting fellow, CSEP, and former Group CSR head, Vedanta) and Vasanthi Srinivasan (Professor, IIM Bangalore).
For the 3rd edition in 2023, the central theme was “Corporations, Media, and Governance”. 162 business school teams registered for the event, the top four teams who made it to the finals included Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, the Indian Institute of Management Kashipur, the Management Development Institute Gurgaon and XLRI Jamshedpur. The winners this year were Management Development Institute Gurgaon with Indian Institute of Management Kashipur being the runners up and like the previous year, CNBC-TV 18 covered the entire Program this year too.
This 2023 panel discussion was on “Media’s Role in enabling Conscious Capitalism”. The Panel was moderated by Mugdha Kalra of CNBC-TV18 and included Dr Mukund Rajan ex Chief Ethics Officer and Brand Custodian of the Tata Group, Pankaj Bansal co-founder of People Strong, Wheebox and Taggd and part of Karmyogi Bharat, Chitra Narayanan a well known journalist and writer, Siddarth Pai – the Founding Partner, CFOand ESG Officer of 3one4 Capital and Sherbir Panag, Managing Partner with Panag & Babu’s.
