Class 12 midterm exams postponed in Karnataka

In Karnataka, the midterm class 12 board examinations have been postponed to be held between December 13 and 24.

Amid the stiff resistance by students and their parents, the Karnataka Pre-University Board has decided to postpone the midterm board examinations for class 12 students to December 2021. Now, the midterm board will be conducted between December 13 and 24. Earlier the examinations were scheduled to start on November 29.

The exams were announced in November as the Board department was fearing the third wave of Covid 19. However, the students, teachers, parents and student organisations have all opposed the decision as they complained that the syllabus would not be completed and other factors also may affect the students' performances. The annual examinations were also cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic and results were declared based on SSLC (class 10) and midterm examination exam results.

The department had asked the teachers to complete the syllabus even if they need to take extra classes, especially for science students. The teachers were also asked to submit a report in this regard. The Principals of colleges had the responsibility of the evaluation of answer papers.

PU college managements have been directed to mandatorily update the unit test results and attendance of the students and complete the evaluation of answer papers of midterm exams latest by December 31 and submit the report to the department.

The reports of exam postponement were surfacing for some time and the matter was with the Primary and Secondary Education Minister BC Nagesh. The final announcement was awaited in this regard. The new exam schedule can be found on the official website of PUE: pue.kar.nic.in.
