The Centre for Intellectual Property Rights of Andhra University has announced that it has filed six patent applications with the Intellectual Property India office in Chennai. Out of the six patents, one of the inventions is a pharmaceutical compound that can be used for the treatment of gastritis and gastric ulcers. University researchers developed one multi-functional smart pole for early flood detection and rescue operations. This low-cost, self-sustained and portable flood pole collects data on floods based on IoT-enabled devices.
The smart sensors will send the information at regular intervals regarding the water level, river runoff, rainfall, etc., with spatial coordinates to the operation center for efficient and timely rescue operations. On the basis of the frequent information about floods, the resume teams will now be able to take quick action in the specified geographic locations.

While speaking to TOI, Andhra University vice-chancellor Prof PVGD Prasad Reddy said all the emerging technologies need multidisciplinary research and innovation efforts. "The state government designated the Centre for Intellectual Property Rights of Andhra University as the state nodal agency. The university has prepared an IP policy to promote innovation, IP culture and entrepreneurship. The major objective of the Centre is to create a conducive and holistic ecosystem to tap the full IP potential of university researchers, students and faculty," said Prof Reddy.
