Bangalore University releases syllabus for second-semester Kannada courses, books still awaited

Bangalore University's Department of Kannada Studies has submitted a report on the National Education Policy (NEP) compliant syllabus for the second-semester Kannada courses. The move comes after several students and professors urged the varsity to release the syllabus at least, as students who are pursuing Kannada are facing trouble without any proper textbooks or set syllabi.

In line with the NEP 2020, students will now have to study the NEP syllabus in their second semester. Though the department has submitted the approved syllabus and textbooks for the Kannada courses, it is still not in the complete form. On Thursday, the syllabi for the Kannada Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BSc) and Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) have been approved and the textbook sample has been made. However, the syllabus and textbook for Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) and Bachelor of Computer Science (BCA) are still awaited and might take some time, as reported by TNIE.

“The syllabus for all three has come on July 7. For BCom, it might take three to four days. However, the BCA syllabus will take at least a week,” said Dr Lakshminarayan A V, general secretary for Bangalore University College Kannada Teachers’ Association (BUCKTA).

With the varsity releasing only the syllabus, it is still unclear as and when the textbooks will be printed and will be provided to the students. It must be noted that the University began the classes for the second semester last month, with students attending classes without a textbook or any kind of syllabus.
