The varsity's decision to launch a postgraduate programme, i.e. Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence is in line with the recently introduced New Education Policy 2020.

The Benaras Hindu University (BHU), Uttar Pradesh is planning to introduce a new Masters programme in Artificial Intelligence. According to the official reports, the decision is taken by the varsity considering the importance and utilisation of Artificial Intelligence in different areas, including Cyber Security. The varsity's decision to launch a postgraduate programme, i.e. Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence is in line with the recently introduced New Education Policy 2020. The official reports also suggest that the programme will focus on 'technology-based learning and skills’ as a major part of education.

Professor Rakesh Bhatnagar, BHU Vice-Chancellor constituted a committee in order to explore various aspects of the new MSc in Artificial Intelligence programme. On October 7, 2020, the Committee held its first meeting. The meeting was chaired by Professor Anand Mohan, Member Executive Council, BHU.

According to the official statement released, among the attendees of the meeting were Professor A K Agrawal, Professor K Subbiah, Professor Banketeshwar Tiwari, Professor S K Singh and Dr Anil Kumar Pandey. Suggestions are invited from the members by the committee along with deliberating over the proposed course and syllabus. The official statement released by the Banaras Hindu University read, "The postgraduate course in the field of Artificial Intelligence is meant to provide trained technical manpower to the country and will be a great asset in the area of the virtual world which be useful to society and as well as to the country as a whole. The statement also read that BHU’s MSc in AI will be first-of-its-kind when the course will be offered at the varsity."
