COVID-19: IIM Calcutta alumni donate oxygen concentrator to institute
The oxygen concentrator is being kept at the medical unit of the Institute.
Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta alumni have donated one unit of an oxygen concentrator to the institute. In memory of Dharmes Oraon, who died due to Covid, some of the same batch alumni came forward to donate an oxygen concentrator for the IIM Calcutta community, especially for group D staff and contract workers, the IIM Calcutta said in a statement. The oxygen concentrator is being kept at the medical unit of the Institute.
"This donation of a life-saving device reiterates institute-alumni relations. Such generous gestures on behalf of our alumni is an affirmation of the emotional connection that they have with their alma mater," said Professor Manish Thakur, Dean (New Initiatives and External Relations), IIM Calcutta.
Owing to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, IIM Calcutta recently organized and conducted a virtual city meet via Zoom this year for its new batch of students. Earlier, IIM-C used to conduct these annual city meets physically across India for the incoming batch where new students get an opportunity to interact with current students, renowned alumni, and their future batch mates.
The idea behind the conduct of these city meets is to give students an insight into the life that awaits them at Joka. Last year also the city meet was also held in virtual mode due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. According to an IIM-C spokesman, a total of 480 participants attended these meets recently including students from the incoming batch, current batch and distinguished alumni.
Talking about the conduct of the virtual meet by IIM C, Sudhansh Jayant and Vidisha Misra, ER Cell Secretaries at IIM Calcutta said, "We are thankful to all the students, our teammates and esteemed alumni for making these city meet a huge success with their presence."
