Meanwhile, as protest gained heat for and against the hijab in Karnataka, the Chief Minister of the state, Basavaraj S Bommai ordered that the schools, colleges in the state will remain closed for the next three days. He also urged the people and students in the state to maintain peace. Chief Minister tweeted, "I appeal to all the students, teachers and management of schools and colleges as well as people of Karnataka to maintain peace and harmony. I have ordered closure of all high schools and colleges for next three days. All concerned are requested to cooperate."

On January 1, six Muslim students of a government Pre-University college in Karnataka's Udupi were barred from attending classes wearing a hijab. The college management cited a new uniform policy behind the reason for the ban. The issue has spread to some educational institutions in Udupi, Shivamogga, Bagalkote and other parts of the state as they were rocked by protests for and against hijab on Tuesday, forcing the police and administration to intervene.

The Karnataka High Court also heard the petitions on Tuesday filed by five girls studying in a Government Pre-university College in Udupi, questioning hijab restriction in college. The matter will be heard today again at 2:30 pm.
