Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore has announced that it has opened the new Nokia Center of Excellence (CoE) in networked robotics at the IISc Bengaluru campus. The Nokia CoE on campus has been built in collaboration with Nokia and it aims to promote inter-disciplinary research in robotics and advanced communication technologies in 5G and artificial intelligence (AI).
"The research area of the IISc Nokia centre will include robotics design, AI and automation solutions in telecom networks and their applications. Under the collaboration between IISc Bangalore and Nokia, Nokia will fund the centre for three consecutive years," claims the institute.
As per the statement by the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore,"the CoE will also develop use cases across industrial automation, agriculture and disaster management. The centre aims to engage with academia, start-ups and industry ecosystem partners and cooperate with them for research and development of use cases."
“Next-generation communication technologies like 5G and 6G will contribute enormously to the growth of India’s economy. Our collaboration with a world-class company like Nokia will enable us to explore new frontiers for advanced technology research to benefit society as well as provide state-of-the-art training to our students to enable them to become technology leaders in the coming decades,” said Govindan Rangarajan, director of IISc Bangalore.
Meanwhile, a team of researchers at the institute have developed a design framework to build next-generation analog computing chipsets that could be faster and require less power than the digital chips found in most electronic devices. Using their novel design framework, the team has built a prototype of an analog chipset called ARYABHAT-1 (Analog Reconfigurable technologY And Bias-scalable Hardware for AI Tasks).
