Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) walls were found defaced with slogans against the upper class community, photos of which are now making round on the social media. Students claimed that the School of Language,Literature and Cultural Studies-II and School of International Studies-II were defaced with such slogans. A section of students accused the Left of defacing the walls.
Rohit Kumar, president of JNU's Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad wing, said, "Since 2014, these kinds of incidents have been happening continuously in the university. The JNU administration has been repeatedly informed by ABVP that such incidents should be stopped, but no cognisance has been taken. If the JNU administration does not stop such incidents, we will be forced to believe that this is being done in connivance with the Left."
"JNU is a place for debates and discussion and not a hate factory. Academic spaces cannot be used to spread hate and poison among young minds and society. We demand an inquiry and strict action against the perpetrators," it stated.
"Why will we do such a thing? If there is any difference, we will take it up politically. We have been campaigning for the MCD elections also, and there's been nothing related to defacement of any wall. This is simply ironical and feels completely concocted and we absolutely condemn it."
The JNU administration issued a statement, saying, "Vice-chancellor Santishree D Pandit has taken a serious note of the incident of defacement of walls and faculty rooms by some unknown elements in SIS, JNU. The administration condemns these exclusivist tendencies on the campus. Such incidents will not be tolerated as JNU belongs to all."
