Lucknow University has announced that it will now offer dual degrees to students from the next academic year; i.e. 2023-24. LU Admission Council approved the proposal during a meeting in which other important admission-related issues were also discussed. The meeting was chaired by LU Vice-Chancellor Professor Alok Kumar Rai.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) had earlier announced the dual degree policy in April this year and urged colleges to implement the same. The dual degree policy is in line with the recommendations under the National Education Policy, NEP 2020.

As the University follows the dual degree system, students will be able to transfer to different colleges and universities. Also, the students will be allowed to pursue two degrees together. Lucknow University will also be constituting a committee to prepare a detailed set of guidelines and ensure smooth implementation of the policy. However, it was decided during the meeting that the transfer applications already submitted by the students will be dealt as per the older format. So far, the university has transfer applications from 12 students.

In the meeting, it was also decided that seats for MSc food processing and food technology will be increased from 30 to 40 in the coming session.
