Madras University begins semester exams online; question paper distributed through digital platform
Students will receive the question papers through digital platforms by the affiliated colleges. Once the exam is completed, students will have to send the hard copies of their respective colleges through speed post or e-mail the photos of their answer sheets.
Madras University began the semester exams from December 21 onwards in which over 2 lakh students had appeared. The varsity will be holding the semester exams in a partial manner to avoid further spread of COVID-19. Over one lakh students with arrears, who have paid fees for April/May 2020 exam had also appeared for the exam.
Madras University will be conducting the exam for three hours daily. A Syndicate meeting was held in the first week of December in which it was decided that the exams will be conducted in a partial manner online. Students will receive the question papers through digital platforms by the affiliated colleges. Once the exam is completed, students will have to send the hard copies of their respective colleges through speed post or e-mail the photos of their answer sheets. However, the rules of the exam will differ for every college.
While speaking to a media house, P Murugakoothan, Principal of Pachaiyappa College said “We have appointed a nodal officer for each class and we will share question papers to students through WhatsApp groups. Students will write the exams in pen-and-paper mode and send the answer scripts via speed post to us.”
Meanwhile, Madras University has decided to grant special opportunities to students to clear their arrear papers. As per the notice released by the Controller of Examinations, special permission is being given to all UG and PG students whose degrees are incomplete to take three more attempts to clear their arrears - in November 2020, April 2021, and November 2021.
