The University of Madras is looking forward to holding all semester exams for undergraduate and postgraduate students in offline mode from November.
"We are planning to hold semester exams from November onwards. Since the classes have been resumed, the University is planning to ask students to write all semester examinations physically in their classrooms,” S Gowri, Vice-Chancellor of Madras University told TNIE.
"All the affiliated colleges will be asked to make all the necessary arrangements required as per Covid-19 protocol to conduct offline exams," Gowri added.
The University took the decision to conduct the offline exams during a syndicate meeting held recently. Some sources said that many University officials have agreed on the offline exams to ensure proper learning and quality among students.
"What can you expect the student to learn if they have to write answers by seeing their books and uploading them later on. We are noticing that after attending online classes for over a year, it has become difficult for students to remain attentive in class," a faculty member of the university told TNIE.
As per the report, the University had conducted the exams online earlier owing to the COVID-19 pandemic. Students during the online exams also were given time to download the question paper and upload their answers within three hours of completing the exam. Even those students who could not upload their written answers were provided with the option to send their answers through post.
Currently, the University is holding classes in hybrid mode, as per the report.
