The President awarded degrees to 7,832 students. Around 38 students were conferred with gold medals.
Mizoram University held its 16th convocation which was attended by the President of India Ram Nath Kovind. The President awarded degrees to 7,832 students. Around 38 students were conferred with gold medals.
While speaking at the convocation and congratulating students for successfully completing their programmes, the President said, “I am told that out of 7,832 students who have been awarded degrees today, about 4,700 are girl students which is more than 50 per cent. Also out of 38 gold medals awarded today, 23 of them have been won by girls. It is a shining example of women’s excellence.”
“I feel very happy to be in this beautiful state of Mizoram. The campus of Mizoram University reminds me of the educational institutions of the ancient times which were close to nature providing an appropriate learning ambiance to the students,” the President added.
While appreciating the Mizoram University for the initiatives it has taken, he said, this is the key to bringing change in our society and economy. He further said that the Northeastern part of our country has so much potential in trade and development because of its strategic location. Although it is a land-locked state, with no access to sea, the site has potential for developing trade relations with the other countries as it shares borders with Bangladesh in the west and Myanmar in the east, and also interstate boundaries with three Indian states- Assam, Manipur and Tripura.
“The agreement for the development of international trade ‘haats’ at borders with Bangladesh, which was recently signed by the two countries, is a step which would lead to better connectivity and trade,” the President said.
