Pondicherry University: Admissions open for PhD programmes; Apply by June 28

Candidates seeking admission to PhD programmes at Pondicherry University must apply at the official website - www.pondiuni.edu.in latest by June 28, 2023.

Online applications are invited for admission to PhD programmes 2023-2024 at Pondicherry University. While filling out the application form, the candidates need to apply separately for each programme. The candidates should fill each column correctly.

The admissions will be on the basis of an entrance exam using CBT methods. The hall ticket for the exam will be uploaded after the closing of the application registration. The candidate must download his/her hall ticket and produce it at the examination centre.

Eligibility Criteria for Pondicherry University's PhD admissions 2023

Students should have, in general, obtained their Master’s degree from a recognized University under the 10+2+3+2 system, i.e., the candidate should have studied for 17 years to obtain his/ her Master’s degree to apply for admission to PhD programmes respectively offered at each school/ department/ centre.

"Only those candidates who have studied under 10+2+3+2 pattern of education (or 10+2+5) and qualified for the Master’s Degree in the subject concerned or in an allied subject and have qualifications as prescribed by the regulations for the subject concerned under all the Schools/ Departments/ Centres of Humanities and Social Sciences, Management, Commerce, Science, Education, Fine Arts and Languages and such other disciplines of Pondicherry University, or a degree

accepted as equivalent by the University securing a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent grade) are eligible to apply," reads the official notification.

Admission to the PhD Programmes shall be made as per the following criteria: 

• Entrance Exam - 70 %
• Personal Interview & Academic Record - 30 %

Candidates who have secured 50% marks in the entrance test will be eligible to be called for an interview.

A relaxation of 5% marks will be allowed in the entrance examination for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/differently-abled category, Economically Weaker Section (EWS). For the purpose of working out the average, only ‘zero’ and above will be taken into account.

The application fee for SC and ST categories is INR 500, for PH/Transgender, there is no application fee and for others, the application fee is INR 1000.
