President Ramnath Kovind attends 9th convocation of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University Lucknow
He asked the youths to start working with "full determination” for making India "samtamulak" (egalitarian) and strong.
President Ram Nath Kovind has said that he hopes that India will be free of discrimination and a developed nation by 2047 when it will celebrate the centenary of independence. He was speaking at the 9th convocation of the Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow. The President also urged the youths to become job creators and not job seekers.
"Today half of the country's population is below 25 years of age…when in 2047, we celebrate the centenary of independence, you youths will be leading the country. I hope by 2047, India is discrimination-free and a developed country by the efforts of your (present) generation. In future India, we must have imbibed justice, equality and brotherhood in our personal and social life," he said.
He asked the youths to start working with "full determination” for making India "samtamulak" (egalitarian) and strong.
While quoting Babasaheb Ambedkar, the President said that if an educated person does not come forward for the welfare of the society, then education has no meaning. Now "our daughters are giving more fame to the country than our sons", he said. Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were also present on the occasion.
During the convocation ceremony, President awarded 1,424 students of undergraduate, post-graduate, PhD and MPhil degrees and gold medals to six of them. Earlier, the President laid foundation stone of Savitri Bai Phule hostel in the university.
The President will today unveil a statue of Dr Sampurnanand, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and inaugurate an Auditorium at the Capt Manoj Pandey Sainik School in Lucknow. On the same day, he will also grace the 26th convocation of the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow.
