Punjabi University forms committee to promote green activities on campus
Convener Onkar Singh said the university had been carrying out activities in relation to promoting green activities on the campus.
Punjabi University has announced that it has set up a committee for taking initiative to promote green activities as per the guidelines of NAAC. Convener Onkar Singh said the university had been carrying out activities in relation to promoting green activities on the campus. He said, “Now the university has set up a committee and carry out plantation drivesas per the environment of the state. We will slowly and gradually remove plants and trees which extract excessive underground water.”
He said the university would make use of vermicompost for the management of dry and wet waste and also install rainwater harvesting system on buildings. “As part of the committee, we will also make efforts to gradually reduce the university’s expenditure on electricity”, he said.
Meanwhile, Punjabi University has also formed a committee for green and energy audit as per the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) requirements. The committee will focus on ensuring eco-friendly and sustainable practices in the university environment. “The committee will focus on promoting green energy and disposal of e-waste. We will work toward energy conservation so that our energy expenditure remains low. The committee will also analyse and report on the green energy policies”, convener Dr Sukhjinder Singh Buttar said.
He said the report prepared by the team would be presented at the time of the NAAC team’s visit to the campus. Six years back, the NAAC had suggested that each department in Panjab University should have at least six teachers. However, PU did not act on it and the condition of these departments is the same as before. One to four teachers have been working in more than 30 departments
