Maharashtra Higher Education Minister Uday Samant has announced that the government has granted permission to the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) to start its sub-center at Doha in Qatar. While attending the grievance redressal forum meeting at the SPPU, where he heard the issues faced by the students, he said,  "Necessary permission has been given to the SPPU to start its syllabus in Doha Qatar. The MoU between the SPPU and the Qatar government was inked in 2019 for opening a sub-center there."

The minister added that the recruitment process in the university, which was stalled due to COVID-19, will resume. Samant also said that a sub-center of Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University will be set up at Balewadi in Pune. According to the SPPU, of the total number of 4,411 pending issues, as many as 4,053 issues related to the students, teachers, principals, non-teaching staff and other employees of the university were resolved during the meeting.

SPPU had earlier announced that the final-year students who will be appearing for their first-semester examination will be given two options to write the descriptive-type questions. They can either type on their devices or they can write the answers on an A4 size sheet, scan the answer-sheet and upload it.

There is a built-in scanning facility in the system of the external agency contracted to conduct the examination. The students will have to turn on the back camera at the time of scanning and get the written answer sheets scanned. Once the scanning is done, the software will convert it into a QR code, which the students have to submit. This is all done seamlessly and students do not need to do anything differently.
