Soon, centre of research for emergency response system at NIT Trichy
Signing an agreement with Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), NIT Trichy Director said such a facility will improve decision-making in emergency situation which minimises response time.
The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Trichy and Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Thiruvananthapuram, have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to set up a centre for carrying out research and development on the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) on the NIT Trichy campus.
C-DAC, a premier research and development organisation of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, was given the responsibility of developing a complete solution for ERSS to implement a ‘One India one emergency number 112’ by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. C-DAC has developed the core ERSS solution as per the guidelines of the ministry and installed it in all states and union territories. The union government is now planning to modernise ERSS-112 with next generation solutions in terms of performance and intelligence, a press release issued by the institute said.
Mini Shaji Thomas, Director, NIT Trichy, and A Kalai Selvan, Project Director, ERSS-112, CDAC-T, signed the MoA in the presence of S Muthukumaran, Dean (Research and Consultancy), N Sivakumaran, Department of Instrumentation and Control Engineering and other faculty members of NIT Trichy.
Thomas said establishing such a centre at NIT Trichy would improve decision-making in emergency situation which minimises response time and paved way for a better industry and institute interface for a social cause. It will develop solutions which will help departments such as police, health and fire in handling emergency calls.
