Savitribai Phule Pune University’s (SPPU) science park has moved to a new building of 15,000 sqft was inaugurated on the occasion of Science Day. In 2014, the center of science education and communication which is also known as the science park was started.
In addition to the microbiology and chemistry laboratory, four separate laboratories have been made available for the students. The science park also has a projection room for displaying science documentaries and two large telescopes for space observation. Distinguished professor and coordinator of Science Park, Dilip Kanhere, said, β€œOn the occasion of science day, students presented about 100 projects. These included roots to the leaves, self-contained talking tree, the interior of the ants swarm, the energy generated with fun, a train built by the Joshi Railway Museum to tell the journey with a steam engine to the Metro, the life cycle of a butterfly.” The winners of the science competition were given prizes.
Chairman of Bharat Forge Baba Kalyani said, β€œI am happy to be a part of this initiative which was started to generate interest in science among students. I am part of SPPU and in every initiative like science park, I am with SPPU.”

Earlier, SPPU reopened its hostel for students from February 21.Β The SPPU registrar Prafulla Pawar in a circular stated that the decision to reopen the hostels has been taken considering the long pending demand from the students to reopen the facility. With offline classes started by the University and its affiliated colleges, students who are coming from rural areas were facing accommodation issues and have been requesting the management to open the hostels.Β
