Student lodges police complaint against Visva-Bharati VC
On Saturday, a suspended Visva-Bharati student lodged a police complaint against vice-chancellor Bidyut Chakraborty.
Rupa Chakrabortty, a member of the Communist Party of India's (CPM) student wing Student Federation of India (SFI) accused him of harassing her as she had dared to oppose his illegal activities. She alleged that Bidyut Chakraborty linked her to a fictitious protest.
Rupa Chakrabortty was one of the faces of the campus protest which was held in January 2020 against the pro-CAA lecture.
Rupa is a final-year student of Hindustani classical music. She said she was tagged in a fictitious student protest and suspended since January 2021. Now, when the university extended Rupa's suspension by three months, she approached the police.
She has urged the police force to, “take appropriate action against Prof. Bidyut Chakrabarty for his criminal intimidation and selective harassment”.
