Three senior-year students from Dibrugarh University has been arrested by the Assam Police in connection with a ragging incided which left a junior-year student in critical condition. Simanta Hazarika, Niranjan Thakur, and Pranjit Baruah, all residents of Padmanath Gohain Baruah Students' Hostel, were identified as the three older students held in connection with the crime.

The have been arrested after Anand Sarma, a junior-year student in the University's commerce department, allegedly leapt off the second story of the dormitory to escape a savage assault by seniors in the guise of ragging, seriously hurting himself. He was rushed to the hospital and his condition is said to be critical. 

Sarma was joined by two other juniors who were victims of ragging. Following the incident, the victim's family filed a report, and the accused were taken into custody, the Times Now reported.

While speaking on the incident, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticised the practice of ragging and said that the victim is being provided with medical care.
“It has come to notice that a Dibrugarh University student is hurt in an alleged case of ragging. A close watch was maintained and follow-up action was coordinated with the district admin. Efforts on to nab the accused, and the victim being provided medical care. Appeal to students, say NO to Ragging," the Assam CM tweeted.
