With the decline in COVID cases across the state, the Chandigarh administration has decided to reopen the colleges, universities and other educational institutions from today; i.e. February 1. The educational institutions will be reopened with COVID-19 protocols in place.
The Directorate of Higher Education, Chandigarh administration issued an official notification. "With effect from February 1, 2022, all universities, colleges and other institutes of higher education, polytechnics, ITIs, and training institutes shall be allowed to open,” DHE said in the official notice.
It must be noted that the reopening of colleges is subject to two conditions; i.e. all students should have received at least one dose of vaccination against COVID and all teaching, non-teaching staff should be fully vaccinated.
All the public libraries, as well as coaching institutes, have also been given nod to reopen with 50 per cent capacity while adhering to the COVID-19 norms, the administration stated in its official notification.
Along with this, the hostels have also been allowed to start functioning, however, students will have to present a negative RT-PCR test report taken 72 hours before. To avoid further spread of COVID-19, colleges and other educational institutions have been urged to follow strict COVID-19 rules in the canteen, mess, common room etc., the statement further added.
Along with this, several other states have also started reopening their colleges and Universities. In a related development, the West Bengal government allowed colleges, universities and polytechnic institutes to reopen from February 3 as the pandemic situation improved in the state.
