Covid Scare: UP colleges, schools to remain closed till Feb 6
Amid the rising cases of Covid-19 in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government has extended the schools and colleges closure to February 6.
The Uttar Pradesh government has extended the closure of all educational institutions including colleges and schools till February 6.
The official orders came from ACS Home AK Awasthi on January 28.
Earlier, colleges and schools were directed to remain closed till January 30. The schools can meanwhile continue with the online classes. For Class 11 and 12, online classes will be held and schools will organise vaccination camps to vaccinate students between the age group of 15 to 18. Students can visit schools for participating in the vaccination program.
Although the classes in Anganbadis have been discontinued, the food and rations distribution will continue as before.
On Friday, the state reported 7,907 fresh COVID-19 infections and 14 more deaths, taking the active cases tally to 65,263 and the total number of fatalities to 23,139. Lucknow reported the maximum number of 1,304 new cases, followed by Gautam Buddh Nagar reported 376 cases, Ghaziabad-316, Kanpur Nagar - 229, Meerut-183, and Varanasi-197.
Two deaths each reported from Hardoi, Gautam Buddh Nagar, and Lucknow. A total of over 1.80 lakh Covid tests were done in UP in the last 24 hours and to date 9.88 crore samples have been tested.
Whenever the Covid scenario gets worse in the state, the government announces the closing of education institutions. The state government is expected to take a call once the vaccination rates among children improve.
Amid the ongoing school closure, UP school students are also demanding that the state Board should release the UP Board Exam Dates 2022 at the earliest which is speculated to be in either March or April 2022.
