Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the district administration has all the authority to close down all the educational institutions and hostels in case the number of cases in Guwahati touches 1000. The announcement was made after he chaired a high-level meeting with the Education Department officials to check the COVID 19 situation in the state. 

Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “Held a meeting with officials of Health Dept, PWD and Education Dept. to discuss the current situation of COVID 19 and its management in the state. We are all geared up to combat pandemics again. Together, we shall conquer over these trying times”.

He further added, “In case the daily COVID 19 case rate in Guwahati Metro reaches 1000, the district administration has been authorized by the state to take decision on closing down educational institutions & hostels. Follow COVID Appropriate Behavior with facemask”.

Earlier, Assam Government has issued new guidelines to curb COVID-19 infection in the state. Assam Government has directed the closure of all the Lower Primary Schools till Class 5 in areas marked as COVID hotspots having more than 100 active cases. Colleges will continue with 50 per cent capacity. The state government has until now not announced any decision on Assam Board Exams 2021.

 The Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) and Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) were supposed to announce the decision on conducting the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and HS final year exams after bihu. However, no announcement has been made so far.

As per the latest update from Assam, the district administration of Guwahati can take a call on the closure of schools, colleges and educational institutions. However, students and peers are advised to keep a check on the official announcements for more updates on schools and colleges in Assam.
