97 Institutions failed to apply for approval, AICTE announces closure

The list includes two universities among the list of government-aided and unaided institutions including four branches of IITTM.
The technical education regulatory, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), has announced the closure of 97 technical institutions for failing to apply for course approval or intake restorations. The list includes two universities among the list of government-aided and unaided institutions.
The list of institutions includes four branches of the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM) including Gwalior and New Delhi. The institute is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, and offers MBA, BBA and PhD level courses.
As many as 97 institutions have been deemed closed by AICTE as they have not sought approval for the break in the Extension of Approval (EoA) or for the restoration of intake, as per the approval process handbook. The highest number of institutions are from the north-western region (35), followed by 23 from south-central.
The list also includes the name of Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekanand Technical University (CSVTU), Department of Computer Science at The University of Burdwan, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Professional Management, Sanjay Gandhi Institute Of Engineering and Technology.
The AICTE has issued a circular in this regard which reads: βThe Institution seeking approval for Break in EoA/ Restoration of Intake shall apply on the AICTE Web-Portal along with the documents as per Appendix 17 of the Approval Process Handbook. However, Institutions that have not applied for EoA for six years consecutively shall not be eligible to apply under Break in EoA and such Institutions shall apply as a new Technical Institution following appropriate procedure for closure of the Programmes/ Courses approved.β
As per the above clause, βit is informed that the attached institutes are not applying on AICTE portal for past six years and shall be treated as deemed closed from the date of issue of this circular."
