AICTE & DST Launch MTech in Quantum Technologies

MTech in Quantum Technologies: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), in partnership with the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, has launched an MTech programme in Quantum Technologies under the National Quantum Mission. Designed by experts, the MTech in Quantum Technologies programme integrates theoretical foundations with hands-on training, applied research, and real-world problem-solving.

With a strong emphasis on quantum computing, communication, and sensing, the initiative seeks to nurture innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs, and future technology leaders for the rapidly advancing global quantum ecosystem. AICTE and DST have called upon universities and technical institutions across India to adopt and implement the programme, fostering capacity building and creating a strong pipeline of skilled professionals to drive the nation’s quantum-powered future.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. T.G. Sitharam, Chairman, AICTE, emphasised the transformative role of the initiative: “Quantum technology will redefine computing, communication, and sensing. Through this curriculum, we aim to nurture a skilled workforce that can drive innovation and fulfill the goals of the National Quantum Mission.”

Highlighting India’s strong academic potential, Prof. A.K. Sood, PSA to GoI, remarked: “This curriculum, spanning all quantum verticals, is a vital step in making quantum technology a viable career path for students. With its modular and adaptable design, the program ensures inclusivity and excellence across diverse institutions.”

The launch event was graced by Prof. A.K. Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India; Dr. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, DST; Prof. T.G. Sitharam, Chairman, AICTE; Dr. Ajai Chowdhry, Co-Founder of HCL Technologies; and Prof. Shyama Rath, Member Secretary, AICTE, along with senior officials from both DST and AICTE.
