This year is going to be the last time when AKTU will conduct Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Exam (UPSEE), its entrance test. The university will consider JEE Main score from 2021 for admission to colleges in the state.

From next year, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow, will not conduct the Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Examination (UPSEE) for BTech aspirants. Instead, the exam authority will use the scores of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

The marks scored by the candidates in the JEE Main will be considered to fill approximately 1.40 lakh seats in around 750 colleges across the state. At present, UP students are meant to appear individually for two different exams i.e. JEE Main and UPSEE. It will help candidates not to prepare separately for the two exams.

Time-saving step

This year UPSEE is likely to take place on May 10 while admission form will be tentatively made available from the last week of January. It will not be implemented for the year 2020 as the State Government wants students to have some time for preparing better for the JEE Main in 2021.

Students looking to get admission in India’s primary engineering colleges including IITs, NITs, IIITs need to appear for JEE Main. The JEE exam takes place at two levels, JEE Main which is conducted twice in a year (January and April) and JEE Advanced. JEE Main for January attempt has been successfully conducted between January 6-9, 2020. The two exams in a year help students who did not fare well in the January examination and get another chance to improve their marks.

Few states and colleges across India already consider the JEE Main score to fill their engineering seats. Presently, the JEE Main is conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for admission to National Institutes for Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes for Technology (IITs) and other centrally-funded technical institutions.
