Are Big Changes Expected in JEE Advanced 2026? Outcome of Recent IIT Council Meeting Held after 2 Yrs

The IIT council meeting was held on Monday, August 25. The primary agenda of the meeting, as cited by various sources, was: credit sharing among the 23 IITs within the National Credit Framework (NCrF) framework, and establishing an intensive and outcome-oriented peer review process in IITs. Another agenda of the meeting was to make JEE Advanced less coaching-dependent, according to sources.

What IIT Council Meet Mean for the JEE Advanced 2026 Aspirants?

Not much has been reported related to the IIT council meeting yet. The only facts gathered by various news reports after the IIT council meeting were:

  1. The council will focus on credit sharing among the 23 IITs within the National Credit Framework (NCrF) framework
  2. Establishing an intensive and outcome-oriented peer review process in IITs
  3. Necessary changes in curriculum, pedagogy, and assessments in response to the advent of Artificial Intelligence
  4. Mental health and wellness of students
  5. Enhancement of merit-cum-means scholarship and pocket allowance for SC and ST students
  6. Initiatives to overcome language barriers through regional languages

Out of the above points, the only points that seem to hold any meaning for the IIT JEE Advanced 2026 aspirants are points 4 and 6.

Point number 4 may indicate that the JEE Advanced three attempt limit is on the table. In the last session, IIT Kanpur announced a three-attempt limit for JEE Advanced 2025. However, in a few days, the attempt limit was rolled back to two. Giving one extra attempt to IIT JEE aspirants can provide some relief to candidates preparing to crack IIT admissions. Aspirants are already curious about the attempt limits for the upcoming JEE Advanced exam after a short-lived three-attempt rule was announced last year.

And, point 6 may mean the introduction of regional languages to attempt the JEE Advanced 2026 exam, like in JEE Mains.

However, these are just speculations. Note that no official changes have been announced for JEE Advanced by the IIT council after the meeting. If any changes are to be made, an official announcement will be made available to the public. Until then, candidates are advised to go on with their JEE preparation, keeping in mind the existing eligibility and pattern.
