IISc Bangalore launches BTech mathematics and computing course

Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore has launched a new BTech in mathematics and computing programme which will be offered from August 2022. Admission will be done on the basis of JEE Advanced 2022 score. 

8 seats reserved for female candidates 

The total number of seats for the programme is 52, of which eight (20 per cent) seats are reserved for female candidates as supernumerary seats and four (10 per cent) seats are for overseas citizens of India (OCIs), non-resident Indians (NRIs) and foreign nationals. 

There will be a total of eight semesters of which first four semesters will lay emphasis on the core subjects and there will be six courses each in mathematics and computing along with those in science, other engineering disciplines and humanities.  

Eligibility criteria for IISc BTech in mathematics and computing programme 

• The applicant should be Class XII pass or equivalent from a recognised board, including state boards.  
• He/she should have taken physics, chemistry and mathematics as compulsory subjects in Class 12 along with a language and a fifth one that could be anything apart from the ones already taken.

Students will be given indepth knowledge of subjects such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, computational science, computational biology, quantum computing, computer science, signal processing and mathematical finance. They will be exposed to industrial environment or research work in the fourth year of the course. They can also continue for another year and obtain an MTech degree by completing the required courses and credits.
