IIT Bombay & Monash Research Academy Celebrates Graduation of 20 Indian PhD Scholars

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay and Monash Research Academy celebrated its graduation ceremony and conferred 20 PhD degrees to Indian scholars. This year’s graduates showcased impactful research topics that include the study of lagrangian transport in alveolar flows, the development of metal-organic nano-materials for chemiresistive and gas sensors for toxic chemical detection, and representative democracy in India.
The graduation ceremony was attended by Dr Megan Clark AC, Chancellor of Monash University, Professor Shireesh Kedare, Director of IIT Bombay, along with other senior representatives from both institutions, government officials, industry leaders, and the families of graduates.
M.S. Unnikrishnan, Chief Executive Officer of the Academy, said,“Since its inception, the Academy has graduated 265 students, with alumni contributing to global challenges and founding 12 start-ups in areas ranging from energy storage to advanced healthcare solutions.”
Professor Kedare said, “Our joint PhD graduates are solving problems through interdisciplinary research and are emerging as leaders with a global outlook.”
Professor Craig Jeffrey, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International) and Senior Vice-President at Monash University, who also attended the ceremony, said graduates of the Academy are highly sought after by leading global companies and academic institutions.“These projects underscore the Academy’s commitment to addressing real-world challenges across diverse sectors,” Professor Jeffrey said.

The institute offers Merit-cum-Means Scholarship to a maximum of 25% of the sanctioned intake of UG and MSc students. Facilities of Free Messing is also available to SC/ ST students under which they get an exemption from paying the tuition fees. In addition, the Office of the Dean Alumni & Corporate Relations manages the Named scholarship endowed by the alumni of the Institute and other wellwishers. In order to avail of any of the offered scholarships, candidates must meet the eligibility conditions set for the respective scholarships. IIT Bombay offers merit-based scholarships. The scholarship is offered based on the performance of the students in the semester exam. Approximately 20% of the students are beneficiaries of the various scholarships are from various endowment funds. Additionally, a few other scholarships are available centrally from IIT-B. Besides, SC and ST candidates are exempted from paying the tuition fees.

Merit Criterion: For new entrants of BDes their UCEED Rank, will be the criterion. In subsequent years, the criterion will be their academic performance during the preceding academic year.
