There are 25 seats in this programme to which admissions will be through GATE, programming test, and interview.

IIT Delhi has launched a new inter-disciplinary academic programme "M Tech. in Robotics". The two-year programme will be jointly offered by the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and the Yardi School of Artificial Intelligence in association with the Center of Excellence on Biologically Inspired Robots and Drones (CoE-BIRD).

There are 25 seats in this programme to which admissions will be through GATE, programming test, and interview. The first batch of the programme will start in the academic year 2023–24, for which the application process is underway with March 30, 2023, as the last date to apply. Robotics encompasses the technologies of the present, and its study is growing rapidly around the world. At the same time, robotics does not fall into any single traditional engineering discipline. The Master of Technology in Robotics at IIT Delhi will provide students a multidisciplinary curriculum that will prepare them to create innovative and intelligent products and systems to address today's challenges in developing Robotics platforms and applications. The program is designed to be heavy on experiential learning coupled with firm theoretical foundations.

Robotic technologies can be used in a wide range of fields, including health care and rehabilitation, transportation and mobility, dealing with hazardous environments, providing energy, protecting the environment, and, of course, speeding up industrialization. Hence, the M.Tech. programme also supports four specializations:

1. Collaborative Robotics

2. Industrial Robotics

3. Rehabilitation and Medical Robotics

4. Autonomous and Intelligent Vehicles

Developing intelligent robots and systems demands a diverse set of skills. It raises and tries to answer fundamental questions about complex and highly interactive systems, sensing and autonomous operation, physical simulation, and control.

“There is a clear scarcity of personnel trained in the area of Robotic technologies, whereas the Robotics centered automation industry has been growing at tremendous speed internationally as well as in India. This is a clear gap that this newly launched M. Tech. programme in Robotics by the institute will help bridge”, said Prof. Subodh Kumar, a faculty at the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, IIT Delhi and Coordinator, CoE- BIRD.

IIT Delhi also has a non-profit Section 8 company on Cobotics (i.e., IHFC), where more than 50 institute faculty participate. The company has been established with the support of the DST, Government of India. This has also given an impetus to initiating the M. Tech. programme in Robotics.
