IIT Jammu: Fully functional Tinkering Lab inaugurated

IIT Jammu has got first of its kind tinkering lab, which is fully functional and managed by the students.

Today, a tinkering lab was inaugurated at IIT Jammu. It is the first of its kind and completely functional and managed by the students. Tinkerers’ lab is one space where you learn, develop, and conceptualize your ideas and experience hands-on learning. The lab has a wide variety of machines that support rapid prototyping. The core motto of the lab is to “Enter with an Idea, Leave with a Product.”

The lab was unveiled by Ruyintan Mehta in presence of other guests. It was followed by a detailed tour of lab machinery and ongoing projects which were completely done by the IIT Jammu student team of Tinkering Lab.

Sharad Kumar Saraf, Board of Governors, IIT Jammu, was the chief guest on the occasion while the event was also attended by Damyanti Bhattacharya, CEO of MBF (Maker Bhavan Foundation), Ruyintan Mehta from MBF, Rishi Pathania, CSR of UPL( United Phosphorus Limited) and Kamakshi Singh from JKDFC(J&K Development Finance Corporation Limited ), as reported by Daily Excelsior.

More Details of the event

The core team members presented a brief description of ongoing and completed projects in the tinkering lab, such as, Flipcart grid 3.0 bots, which secured the second position around the nation, Arduino-operated robotic car, Robotic arms, Smart google equipped with Blind Stick, Quadrobot, Quadcopter, Portable water filter, and Cubical satellite.

The event talked about the sustainable industry, finished products and budding entrepreneurship in a technical college like IIT.

Dharmik Shah, Manager of tinkering lab, gave a detailed presentation on the functioning, motto, future endeavours, and ongoing projects of the lab. Many ongoing and completed DIP projects were also discussed.
