IIT Madras Collaborates with Caterpillar Inc. for Research and Innovation
IIT Madras has collaborated with Caterpillar Inc., to strengthen and align the innovative capabilities of both organisations through joint research in technology.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is going to partner with Caterpillar Inc for joint research on technologies, as a โGlobal University Partnerโ. A MoU was signed by Bhuvan Anandakrishnan, Vice President - Engineering and Country Manager, Caterpillar Inc., India, and Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, Prof. Manu Santhanam, Dean (ICSR), IIT Madras, Prof. Shaikh Faruque Ali, Department of Applied Mechanics and Biomedical Engineering, besides other stakeholders.
The collaboration will be done through joint research and development in the technology areas, the implementation of continuing education programmes, and various talent initiatives that include sponsoring innovation clubs and technical events. Also, the partnership will provide IITM students opportunities for internships and full-time employment.
Welcoming this collaboration, Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, said,ย โCaterpillar Inc. is a multidisciplinary company with relevance to multiple departments of IIT Madras. I have no doubt that the collaboration will lead to several exciting products that will be of global standards.โ

Placements at IIT Madras are good. According to the placement report 2025 released, median and average package recorded during BTech CSE placements was 46 LPA and 53.2 LPA. In BTech EE, the median and average salary offered was 22.5 LPA and 28.8 LPA. In ME, MM and PH branch, the average package stood at 16.9 LPA, 18.4 LPA and 34.1 LPA.
The average package offered during IIT Madras BTech placements 2025 for all branch was from INR 16.5 LPA in OE branch to 53.2 LPA in CS branch. In MTech, the average package was between 10.2 LPA and 29 LPA.
The average package offered during MBA and MA placements 2025 was 17.9 LPA and 17.2 LPA. In MSc DSAI, the average package was 26.5 LPA.
