Students of the institute will be trained in Mandarin language and will be able to work in Taiwanese companies established in India and overseas, says CC Reddy, dean, International Relations, IIT Ropar.  

Centre to promote Mandarin among Indian students, faculty 

In a bid to promote education and cultural relations between India and Taiwan, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar has launched a Taiwan Education Centre on its campus. The Centre will also promote Mandarin (Chinese) language among Indian students and faculty to facilitate increased cooperation between higher educational institutions of Taiwan and India. 

Students will be trained in Mandarin language and will be able to work in Taiwanese companies established in India and overseas. These language skills will be an asset over and above technical knowledge,” said CC Reddy, dean, International Relations, IIT Ropar.  

IIT Ropar is one of the eight new IITs established in 2008 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India under The Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2011. It offers BTech at UG level, MTech and MSc at PG level along PhD course across various departments of study.  

IIT Ropar has signed MoU with several international universities for advancements in studies of science and technology and student and faculty exchange programs. IIT Ropar has 11 departments of study and is the first IIT to offer a 6-month internship course for BTech students. The institute also offers various merit-based and need-based scholarships to its students.
