Lesser number of JEE Main test centers in 2016

JEE Main 2016 results out, check details!

According to the information brochure, JEE Main 2016 will be conducted in lesser number of cities as compared to 2015. Infact, the number has gone down by more than half for 2016. In 2015, JEE Main was held at 283 cities, however, in 2016, the exam will be conducted only in 132 cities in India and abroad. But, the exam will be organized at multiple test centers on the exam day in each city.

CBSE has reduced the number of exam cities by more than 50 per cent this year, as per the JEE Main 2016 official notification released on December 1. According to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the conducting body for JEE Main 2016, the entrance exam will be conducted in 132 cities only as compared to 283 cities across India and overseas in 2015. This effectively reduces 151 exam cities in 2016. The exam authority, however, organizes exam at multiple test centres in each city.

This year, the exam city option in the JEE Main 2016 Application Form, reflects this change. As a result many important cities across different states in India haven’t received any exam centre for JEE Main 2016.

For instance, the states of Andhra Pradesh, Kerela, Maharashtra and UP will have significantly less number of exam cities in 2016 in comparison to JEE Main 2015.

JEE Main was held in 22 cities in Andhra Pradesh in 2015. However, in 2016, the exam will be organizeed only in 4 cities. Same is the case with Kerela too. JEE Main 2015 will be held in only 3 cities as against 21 cities in 2015.

The number of exam cities in Maharashtra has reduced significantly. In 2015, JEE Main was organised in 37 cities. However, the exam in 2016 will be held only in 7 cities. The exam is Uttar Pradesh too will be conducted in lesser number of cities - 8 in comparison to the 20 exam cities in 2015.

The detailed JEE Main 2016 information brochure states, “However, if the number of candidates for Computer based examination is less than 50 in a city on a particular date than such candidates will be allotted last day of the computer based examination in the same city. Similarly, efforts will be made to allot candidate’s city of Pen & Paper based examination as per their choice opted for in the application form. However, in some exceptional circumstances, a different city in nearby area may be allotted.”.

JEE Main 2016 website also informs that in case of increase in number of candidates opting the city of Delhi for the Computer Based Examination, some candidates may be allotted examination centre in Noida/Greater Noida/Ghaziabad /Faridabad/ Gurgaon.

JEE Main 2016 is scheduled to be conducted on April 3(offline), 9 and 10(online). The registrations for the exam has commenced too. Check JEE Main 2016 important dates here!
